About Brewarrina Aboriginal Corporation 

About the Corporation

Brewarrina Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) was established to support the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural Museum Trust to manage the Crown Land Museum Reserve and buildings (Res-230001) and the Aboriginal Fish Trap Reserve (Res- 230074) .

The Museum reserve and fish traps are a place of cultural and spiritual significance to local Aboriginals who identify as members of the Ngemba, Ualarai, Murrawarri, Gamilaroi, Baranbinja, Koama, Weliwan, Kula, Baarkkinji people from the Brewarrina region.  

The Aim of the Brewarrina Aboriginal Corporation is for Elders to support and mentor younger members of the community to become active board members that take part in making decisions about their community. 

BAC is register under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (ORIC) and is registered  under the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC)

Our Objectives

    • Responsibly administer and manage the Brewarrina Aboriginal Cultural MuseumTrust, its facilities, land and heritage responsibilities 
    • Act as a resource for community, particularly in education, health, culture and tourism and through these activities, foster and promote the use of the trust lands for a diverse range of community programs and activities
    • Be a place where local Aboriginals can gather, share stories and experiences, support each other and undertake ceremonies and rituals 
    • Through its activities, support the development of a sense of cultural pride, integrity and ownership of local culture, language, society and arts 
    • Foster the empowerment of emerging Aboriginal social and cultural change 
    • Facilitate the exchange of information and skills with other organisations 
    • Work cooperatively with local and non-local organisations to enable the corporation to achieve its objectives
